History 1868 – 1957
William Bache started the practice now known as Baches Solicitors LLP in 1868; Baches have always been in West Bromwich due to the ongoing relationship with the Salter family. The original firm was known as Wm Bache & Sons and in 1898 the firm was inherited by William’s son, Thomas Foley Bache who was assisted by Arthur Arter, an unqualified clerk. Arthur remained loyal to Wm Bache & Sons throughout his career, until his retirement in 1957.
The practice grew under the guidance of Thomas and he was joined by his brother, Charles in 1903 and his brother, Frances in 1906. In 1916, Wm Bache & Sons acquired Caddick and Walker Solicitors another local West Bromwich firm and in 1926 the firm moved to the current offices at Lombard House, Cronehills Linkway. Frances Bache became the firm’s senior acting partner following the accidental death of his brother, Thomas in 1927.
History 1990’s onwards
The firm amalgamated with Hughes & Cooper Solicitors of local town, Wednesbury in the 1990’s and shortly changed its name from Wm Bache, Hughes Cooper to ‘Baches’ as the firm was commonly known by locals.
In 2008, Baches became an all female partnership with 4 female partners headed by Ann Simonds; in 2014 Baches Solicitors became a Limited Liability Partnership thereby starting a new journey as a local legal practice with a real emphasis on the community and family.

For over 150 years, Baches Solicitors has been part of the West Bromwich community – but we know we can’t tell the whole story in one breath. So instead, we invite you to journey with us through the last 75 years, a period that has shaped who we are today.
Bringing Life to the Office
In 2024 our returning ducks each Spring made a splash on LinkedIn and brought a lot of interest to our office environment – did you know we have a pond in the centre of our building?
In the last few year we have grown more and more enthusiastic about serving our community, and fundraising for charities close to our hearts!

2010
Adapting Through Change
Hughes & Cooper closed down around 2010, and we went through a process of restructuring and adjusting so we could still serve our clients without missing a beat.
In 2017 we celebrated our 150 year anniversary by inviting friends, family and clients along to our party hosted at West Bromwich Golf Club.
Evolving Identities
In the 1990’s the business became known as William Bache Hughes Cooper when we merged with a Wednesbury firm Hughes and Cooper. In 2000 we became known simply as Baches as we adopted the local clients name for us!

A New Chapter
In the 1950’s Wm. Bache and Sons started to think about moving to new premises in West Bromwich where we have been a bedrock of our local community since the 1800’s. Although plans were started in the 50’s it was some years before the business moves to our current quirky building on Cronehills Linkway.
